Karling ShyiTro Elaborate Empowerment of the Peaceful and Wrathful Deities

The Empowerment of the Peaceful and Wrathful Deities (ShyiTro) from Karma Lingpa (KarLing) is the gateway to the practice of the 100 Peaceful and Wrathful Deities sadhanas, and to Karma Lingpa’s most well known treasure text, ‘Great Liberation By Hearing During The Intermediate State’ -more detail.

This text is most well known in the West as ‘The Tibetan Book Of The Dead’, as translated by Francesca Freemantle and Chogyam Trungpa.

Intermediate state, or bardo in Tibetan, refers to the time when one’s life is ending, and the period between the moment of death and the next life.

In this intermediate state, as a significant part of the experience of death, it is said that internal visions arise.  These visions appear first peaceful and kind, then more wrathful and challenging, but all the deities appearing are appearances arising from one’s own mind.  They are not external. If one is confident in this at the time of death, these peaceful and wrathful appearances are self-liberated—they dissolve into the mind from which they came.

Thus, the KarLing ShyiTro empowerment is relevant to all of us (for we all ultimately face death), and is indispensable for those of us who now work compassionately with death and the dying.  This empowerment is  essential for those who wish to receive teachings on the ‘Great Liberation By Hearing During The Intermediate State’ to liberate themselves and to benefit and understand the experience of those recently deceased.

This is a rare and precious opportunity to receive this elaborate empowerment over three days, from a respected lineage master, Khenchen Pema Sherab Rinpoche.
